We all want to live in a clean and attractive city but we also
know that we can't just dump our rubbish in a hole in the ground and
forget about it. We want to reduce the waste we send to landfill sites and
we need you to help by following the three R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
You can find your bin collection day on-line including garden waste and blue bin recycle waste. Go to Bin Collection Calendar.
It is
your responsibility to use a registered waste carrier. If you employ someone to
take away your rubbish, you must check that they are registered on the
Environment Agency's waste carriers' register. If your waste is found dumped
illegally, whether you know about it or not, you are breaking the law and can
be fined up to £5,000.
By law, if you carry, collect or dispose of
household, commercial or industrial waste you must be registered with the
Environment Agency. If you dump that waste illegally, you can be fined up to
£50,000 and/or face up to 12 months in prison. Crown Court convictions
can lead to a prison term of up to five years, or a fine, or
both.
