Neighbourhood Helpline

If you report it – we can sort it!

Newcastle and Sunderland City Councils have joined together in a unique partnership to provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week helpline for local people.

Over half a million people in Newcastle and Sunderland will benefit from the new 0300 1000 101 Neighbourhood Helpline which started on 1 April 2008.

You can call the helpline to report a series of issues like noise nuisance, rubbish and litter or abandoned vehicles and a trained adviser will log all the information and report it to the relevant team to sort it out.

Not all services – like the removal of graffiti – are available 24 x 7 but the helpline allows people to report issues out of hours and the job will be picked up in working hours.

Call 0300 1000 101 to report:

  • Rubbish or litter
  • Abandoned vehicles
  • Dog fouling
  • Noise nuisance
  • Smoking in enclosed public places
  • Street lighting
  • Sale of alcohol to the under aged or drugs paraphernalia
  • Vandalism, graffiti and other deliberate damage to public property

The Neighbourhood Helpline is similar to the non-emergency hotline – 101 – but calls to 0300 1000 101 are for council services alone and not for police non-emergencies.

Anyone who has a police non-emergency should dial 08456 043 043.
